History
La Verkin's first settlers were the families of Henry and Joseph Gubler. The Town was founded in 1891. It is not clear how the town got its name. Some believe that the name La Verkin came from the Spanish term 'la virgin' in reference to the Virgin River that runs nearby. However there was little to no Spanish influence in the area at the time. The other theory is that the name comes from a mis-spelling of the original name of the creek that runs along the city. Wherever the name came from it stuck and the residents of the town are proud of it.
La Verkin is a small municipality and is home to many small business. La Verkin is is considered the bridge or gateway to Zion National Park. People travel from all over to stay in town so that they can visit the great national park.
